Authorities Crack Down on UPD Parties in Buenos Aires

The Minister of Education, Tadeo García Zalazar, pointed out that the paradigm regarding the last first day (UPD) of students starting their last year of high school is changing. Previously, this celebration was viewed negatively, but now the goal is for families to get involved positively, being aware of the location and activities of the young people during these festivities.

In the City of Buenos Aires, the end-of-course parties are scheduled for the night of March 4, as students will return to classes the following day.

The UPD is a celebration in which students starting their last year of high school participate. This tradition involves a pre-party at a home, park, or nightclub, the night before the first day of classes. In Mendoza, nine UPD-related parties were interrupted for selling alcohol and charging entrance fees after receiving multiple complaints.

During an intense day, the Night Division of the province of Mendoza handled 20 complaints and, after inspecting the locations, canceled nine of these celebrations. It was confirmed that alcohol was being sold at these parties, entrance fees were being charged, and about 1,500 students had to return to their homes before starting their last year of high school.

The authorities explained that various actions and activities were carried out to address this issue and that they consider the balance to be positive.
